Psychedelic sunrise or soft light

Visited the Sussex Downs again on two mornings. With the first morning there was good cloudscape and with that a decent sunrise. I quickly set-up to expose and took the sunrise shot shown below just as I got there. At the time of shooting I was thinking ten minutes too late as the sun was already above the horizon and very bright but I took a shot anyway and the single exposure came out better than I expected. It may of been a better picture if the sun was a little lower but this was the earliest shot I took.

Then with the second visit, the atmosphere was much different. Mist settled in the lowlands and haze softened the light on the land. I much favor these quieter, atmospheric conditions. As stunning as a colourful and often frantic sunrise shot can be, the carnival like attention can over-shout a quieter style of landscape. Instead of a shield of psychedelic colour the viewer is invited in below to appreciate the delicate tones and thoughtful composition.
